Carroll College Looks Forward After Losing #1 Ranking

By Dominic Shelden

Yes it’s true, Carroll lost their first conference game since 2006 to Eastern Oregon. They also dropped from #1 to #5 in the NAIA Polls. While it did shock many, they say the important thing now is to look forward.

“Well you know, We’ve got to get back to work. We put that one to bed after watching film on Sunday, and came out and had a good practice that day. Made some corrections, and since Monday it’s been all about getting ready for Western," says Carroll Senior QB Dane Broadhead.

“We’ve got to learn from our mistakes, and the whole theme we’re talking about this week is corrections. What are the things that we can control. Eastern Oregon’s QB and receivers made some tremendous plays, and there’s nothing we can do about that," says Head coach Mike Van Diest.

This week the Junior and Senior leaders have taken an extra step to make sure they get a little vocal when they need to.

“Oh I think on Tuesdays practice they were a little bit fiery-they got after some young guys, and it wasn’t the coaches necessarily doing all the talking. It wasn’t that they were down-grading their teammates, they just said ‘hey this is something we messed up on Saturday, let’s focus a little bit more, let’s concentrate,’ and that was good to see," says Van Diest.

“I think it’s important for us to have a good week of practice. We need to have guys maybe a little more focused than we were last week going into that game. And we need to come out and execute our game plan in practice because that’s a reflection of how you’re going to play on Saturdays," says Broadhead.

And even though the Saints will face Eastern Oregon again this season, they aren’t worried about that just yet.

“Once we get that opportunity we’ll look forward to it, but we still have three more teams within the conference that we have to play first. So we’ll attack this game on Saturday," says Broadhead.

This week Carroll plays host to 0-2 Montana Western. We’ll have more on that game in this weeks Frenzy on Friday evening.
