Carroll Football Excited for Trip Back to Rome, Georgia

By Dominic Shelden

Throughout the season, after every Carroll victory, players were excited…but they may not have necessarily shown it. That changed this last week in their semi-final win. The players finally showed a little emotion.

“To go into the championship I think the great thing about them (Carroll Players), there’s no entitlement, and they don’t take it for granted. Some teams came walk off the field, and maybe be ho-hum about it, but not these guys,” Says Head coach Mike Van Diest

“After the semifinals you get that maybe hour or minutes to celebrate that game a little bit, because we have this extra week off. And the championship game is a ton of fun,” Says Senior O-Lineman Zach Zosel.

During the several days spent in Georgia, the team takes part in plenty of activities, like banquets, speeches, and they even visit local schools. It makes for a trip that leaves lasting memories for more than just what happens on game day.

“It was really fun last year. One of the speeches was an offensive lineman who gave the speech, and he gave us a shout-out a couple of times. It’s nice to hear things from a perspective of someone who played in the NFL and the University of Georgia,” Says Zosel.

“I heard the sweet tea is pretty good,” Smiles Redshirt Freshman Dustin Rinker. “Things like that…we get to visit some schools, and interact with kids at elementary schools, I’m looking forward to that. It’s going to be a great time.”

For players in their last season wearing the purple and gold, or those taking their first trip to Georgia, everyone can agree it’s a special event they get to take part in.

“Can’t ask for anything more, This year I’ve played in all the games I’ve been eligible to play in. Had three extra games here in front of the home crowd which has been great, and we’re just excited to have one more game,” says Zosel.

In preparation for the game down in Georgia, the Saints will be practicing at Vigilante under the lights on Friday, and then travel to Bozeman to play on some field turf. We’ll have more on that later in the week.
