Matt Ritter: The Heart of Carroll's Receivers

Unselfish is a good way to describe the Caroll Football team as a whole. But Matt Ritter, out of Butte Central H.S. may exemplify that trait the best.

"He's a great guy-a great leader. I mean when we mess up, he's right there with us," Says RS Freshman Receiver Drew Clausen.

"He's exactly what you want as a coach-he's exactly what you want as a teammate. He's very loyal-he's very dedicated. You can count on him-and that's one of the best things you can say about somebody-you never have to worry about if he has your back," says Head Coach Mike Van Diest.

Starting out at Carroll, Matt had planned on playing QB, but when the coaches asked him to move to receiver, he didn't hesitate.

"I didn't really think too much of it-other than 'that's where they want me to play' And I'll do whatever to help the team. You know in High School I did a couple different things going from QB, to RB to WR-so I kinda felt like it was going to b e just natural going out there," Says the senior wide-out Ritter.

And on the field-he's done quite well.

"You know he does all the little things right-obviously everyone sees what he does does with the big plays-but that's a lot of work and preparation and film study. The hours he spends with Dane (Broadhead) in the summertime and 2-a-days throwing the football and running that pattern," Says Van Diest.

"He's clutch. I mean whenever we need him he seems to be coming up with plays out of nowhere. Dane and him have got some kind of connection that's crazy," Says Clausen.

And as Matt returns home to play in Butte one last time-you better believe he'll be ready, "Last time going down to Butte to play the Diggers, so I'm going to be excited. I'm going to be doing whatever I can to help the team win and come out focused with a lot of intensity. And I think a lot of the guys as well as the whole team are going to be the exact same way."
