Saints Basketball Teams Look To Get Out of Cellar

By KFBB News Team

In the Frontier Conference, we're now more than a third of the way through the conference slate, and there's already some separation from the top and bottom of the standings.

Which means it's officially "go-time" for struggling teams like Carroll College.

And while Carroll is in a log-jam tie for third place in the conference (with 8 teams at 2-3) the Saints are struggling against their lofty expectations.

At 9-8 overall, they are currently in ninth place, but do have a win over conference leader MSU-Northern. A big part of their offense of late has been senior guard Ben Cutler.

"He's a tough kid to guard, he's really athletic. And really quick obviously, but he has a big motor. I think his athleticism is a little deceiving so he can cause a lot of guys problems. When he wants to he can really get to the rim. He's a big time athlete for any level...let alone the Frontier. He's just a tough kid to guard right now, he really feels comfortable with what he's doing in the offense, and it's really starting to show with how he's playing," Says men's head coach Brandon Veltri.

The Carroll ladies also find themselves in that disappointing ninth seed in the Frontier Conference.

Just like the men's team, the women have experienced some tough losses this season. Despite leading in nearly every frontier conference game...they could never seem to finish a game in the closing minutes.

That all changed last weekend when they picked up their first conference win over UGF.

"Oh it was an amazing feeling. So much better to finally finish a game. I don't know that we played a lot different than we had the first four, but the kids are competing hard...playing hard, and doing everything we ask. But to finally finish a game and close it out was a great feeling," says women's head coach Rachelle Sayers.
