Northern loses 3rd conference game at home

By KFBB Sports_Team

MSU-Northern endured another tough loss on their home turf as Montana Tech up-ended the Lights 17-7.

The Northern offense, which has been less than consistent all year long, opened the scoring in the first quarter as Freshman quarterback Garren Hammons connected with Coda Tchida from 40 yards out and a 7-0 lead. It was the longest completion for a touchdown in Hammons short career at Northern. The true freshman completed only 9 of 15 passes for 86 yards and was picked once.

Northern took a 7-3 lead into the break, but Tech came out in the 3rd quarter on a mission. Helena native and Oredigger quarterback Matt Komac hit Alex Grevas in the endzone midway threw the quarter helping Tech to a 10-7 lead.

In the 4th quarter, Northern turned the ball over for the 5th time, which led to a 13 yard run by Corey Warner that put the game out of reach. Warner had 107 yards on the afternoon.

It was the Lights 3rd loss in 4 conference home games this season. The defeat most likely takes them out of not only conference title contention, but also a shot at a post-season birth.

Northern is at UM-Western next weekend. The Lights have yet to lose a conference road game in the 2007 season.
