Saints women bow out of NAIA tourney

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - Three players reached double figures for
Vanguard of California as the Lions beat Montana's Carroll College
71-56 Saturday in the quarterfinals of the NAIA women's national
basketball tournament.
Lauren Gregory scored 22 points for Vanguard. Jessica Richter
had 18 points and Melissa Cook added 17.
Vanguard controlled the action early and took a 30-18 halftime
lead.
Carroll held an early lead, but Vanguard went on a 17-5 run to
end the half. They sealed the win with a 9-0 run to start the
second half.
Jolene Fuzesy scored 11 points for Carroll She was the only
Saints' player to reach double figures.
Carroll ends the season with a 27-6 record. It was the first
time the Saints have reached the quarterfinals of the NAIA tourney.
