UM'S SCHILLINGER TO PLAY IN FB ALL-STAR GAME SATURDAY

By KFBB Sports_Team

MISSOULA, MONTANA (2/5/10-dg ) - Former University of Montana football standout Shann Schillinger has spent the last week in El Paso, Texas, practicing for the Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Game, Saturday, Feb. 6th. Kickoff in Sun Bowl Stadium is at noon (Mountain).
The game will be on CBS College Sports, Direct TV channel 152, Bell TV channel 413, and Sky Angel TV channel 323.
A 6-1, 220-pound free safety from Baker, Schillinger was a four-year letterman and two-year starter for the Grizzlies. He never missed a game during his career, playing in 57 in a row, and starting in
31 straight his junior and senior seasons. He ended his career ranked 20th in career tackles at UM with 257, and 10th (tie) in career interceptions with 10.
During his four-year varsity career, Montana went 51-6 overall,
31-1 in Big Sky games, garnered four league titles, and played for the FCS national championship twice (2008 and 2009).
Last season Schillinger, who was a season-long captain for the Grizzlies, was named to the Big Sky Conference's first team and was the third leading tackler for the second-ranked, 14-1 Grizzlies with 90 stops.
Schillinger, reached via phone today (Feb. 5th), said he was one of five safeties playing for the "Nation" team, which is coached by long-time collegiate mentor Howard Schnellenberger. The Texas team is coached by former Dallas Cowboy safety Bill Bates.
"We (the five safeties on his team) are playing both free and strong safety, and been rotating back-and-forth, although I've played a bit more at strong in practices," Schillinger said, who will have the same number he wore at Montana - 39. "We haven't been in pads since Tuesday, so it is kind of hard to stand out; but it's been a good experience so far.
"I've met a lot of great guys this week and had an opportunity to talk to representatives from several NFL teams," Schillinger said.
"I've probably talked to 15 to 20 teams, and some of those interviews are short and are not very thorough, and some have been more in depth.
It is a great opportunity, and hopefully I can make a good showing in the game tomorrow."
This is the fourth Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Game, as the first contest was played in 2007. The game pits the top collegiate senior all-stars with ties to Texas against top seniors from around the nation.
Last season former Griz All-American safety Colt Anderson from Butte played in front 42,387 fans in the all-star game, suiting up on the "Nation" team. Anderson spent last season on the Minnesota Vikings'
practice team roster.
Former Grizzly quarterback Josh Swogger played in the inaugural game in 2007 for the "Texas" squad.
