30 Champs confirmed to 2nd Tourney of Champions

By KFBB Sports_Team

The law firm of Hoyt and Blewett PLLC in Great Falls is sponsoring the 2nd annual “Tournament of Champions.” The one-day, single elimination all-star wrestling tournament will take place in Great Falls this Saturday, February 20th, 2010. The “Tournament of Champions” will showcase the top high school wrestlers in the state as the state champions from AA, A and B/C schools vie to crown a true State champion at each weight class.
The 2nd Annual Tournament of Champions will feature 30 state wrestling champions from classes AA, A, and B/C, including Great Falls High School state wrestling champions Cole Mendenhall and Josh Morin. Former state champion, Dylan Mendenhall will also be competing for the Bison. Both Cole Mendenhall and Morin will face off against the nationally-ranked Rauser brothers of Broadwater. Jade Rauser is a national champion, three-time state champ who has never lost a high school match. His brother, Val, earned second place at last year’s national championship and is a two-time state champ. Both Mendenhall and Morin hope to avenge earlier losses to the Rauser brothers.
The event will take place at Great Falls High School Old Gym. “We’re hoping to pack the Old Gym to the rafters. It’s going to be a great atmosphere,” said Anders Blewett.
This year’s Tournament of Champions will feature over 50 wrestlers including 30 state champs from last weekend’s All-Class State Tournament in Billings. “We are excited to see the tournament take off. There is going to be some great wrestling.” said Zander Blewett.
The semifinals will be held Saturday morning at Great Falls High School Old Gym at 11 A.M., followed by the championship round at 1:00PM. Ticket prices are $5 for students, and $8 for adults.
Glasgow High wrestling coach, Brady Flaten, said he is excited about bringing his six wrestlers to the tournament and believes the event will be “well worth the price of admission.”
The law firm of Hoyt and Blewett will sponsor the event, including providing free lodging for coaches and wrestlers and compensation for gas mileage.
Attorney Zander Blewett and his sons, Anders and Drew, all former wrestlers who now practice personal injury law, have traveled the state promoting the tournament and have been assisted by the efforts of many volunteers and coaches around the state
Blewett believes “the tournament will resolve all debates about who is the king of the mat in Montana.”
