Brewphoria: Kindrick-Legion Field

The first thing many people notice when they step into kindrick legion field, is how old everything looks.

‘The entire grandstandis original from 1932,' Says Brewer Assistant G.M Nick Bowsher.

So, that might explain it, and if the grandstand is original, what all has been changed since 1932?

“There’s been a number of different renovations, where you’ve seen the back of the grandstand closed off, a concourse built behind the grandstand, and new concession stands, all the outline buildings are much newer.” says Bowsher.

The ballpark has seen plenty of events, from it’s origins in city league baseball, to highschool football games up until the 1960s, and even music concerts. But today it houses almost exclusively baseball, and the impact on the community is still there.

“With no high school baseball, and being the only professional sporti n town, you know it’s quite the gathering place for exciting sports entertainment," says Bowsher

In years past, when the outfield wall needed painting, it was something people from all over town came to volunteer for.

‘All the people that wanted to help out would come out, and next thing you know, everyones got a spray gun, and those who couldn’t run it were still running it, and at the end of the day you had maybe as much paint on you as you did on the fence, but that’s just part of us doing what we could,’ says current Reps coach and long-time Helena baseball fan Bill Rook.

Kindrick legion field stays true to it’s roots, and that’s a rare quality in today’s modern ballparks.

‘With the new revolution of new stadiums, suites, and the epic hospitality areas that a lot of stadiums and teams are going for, stadiums like kindrick legion field are a dying breed,’ says Bowsher.

It’s unique to Helena, unique to the Pioneer League, and is surely a rare look into baseball’s history.
