Mayra Castaneda

Mayra left her hometown of Los Angeles and drove 19 hours to join the ABC family in August 2012. She is looking forward to explore Big Sky Country.

She graduated from Cal State Northridge in May 2012 with a B.A. in Journalism and a minor in Sociology. She is a member of the journalism and mass communications honor society Kappa Tau Alpha. She was a part of her campus's newscast, Valley View News, which aired weekly on L.A. city cable.

Her career began as an intern at KABC-7 and KCBS-2/KCAL-9 in Los Angeles. She was responsible for attending games and practices from teams such as the Lakers and UCLA Football and interviewing players for the newscasts. She also helped with creating highlights for the shows. She says interviewing Phil Jackson before he retired was a dream come true and hopes to run into him while in Montana!

In Mayra's spare time she loves to enjoy the outdoors. She is also a huge sports fan and an even bigger Lakers fan so if you see her feel free to talk basketball with her.

She feels it's her duty to serve her community as a reporter so if you have any story ideas she will love to hear from you.
