The condition of a 42 year old Polson man is still unknown tonight as he recovers from being mauled by a bear.
It seems to be a case of wrong place, wrong time. The man was in a field behind Salish and Kootenai College collecting water samples when he looked up and spied two bear cubs. Once the man stood up, a sow grizzly bear charged him in an effort to protect her cubs. The man is recovering in Kalispell Regional Medical Center with head and arm injuries. His condition is unknown at this time.
The bears were spotted traveling north and east toward the Mission Mountains. Officials are advising people in the general area to be cautious while outdoors.
