The Great Falls annual Ice Breaker Race is run every year rain, snow or shine as a city wide celebration of the coming of spring. People from as far as even Africa come to run in the big event. and after a moment of silence honoring the victims of the Boston Bombings, then they were off.
The 2013 Great Falls Ice Breaker race headed down the opening stretch as the runners in the 5 mile race paced themselves sticking to some race day plans ."Pick a good pace and stick to it even though everybody else is in a rush, if you stick to your pace you could probably keep it longer."
Both Philip Mueller and Brandi McNamar are competing in their first ever 5 mile icebreaker run. "I like to run it's the biggest race in Great Falls, it's a beautiful day so here I am," says Mueller.
Brandi McNamar said, "it's pretty exciting it's my first 5 mile I've ever ran so I'm just hopping to finish." In the end of the 5 mile, Lyle Weese of Bozeman was the first place winner, and even our own KFBB team hit the pavement and ran in the race as well.
Over 4,000 people competed in this years Race making this the biggest Ice Breaker race in it's history since the 90's.
