The state of Montana has a big reason to celebrate, thanks to a recent magazine study listing the treasure state as number one in small business. A recent Kaufman Foundation article lists Montana as the top state for entrepreneurial activity in the years 2012 and 2013. Montana has been ranked high on this list for years but this it the first time our state had been listed as number 1. "The Kaufman Foundation is a organization founded to promote entrepreneurship in the US. And every year they publish this index of entrepreneurial activity, Montana came out on top and this is the first year we have come out on top," explained Brett Doney, Great Falls Development Authority CEO.
The Kaufman Foundation looks at the number of small "mom and pop" type shops in all 50 states before they file their report. Out of all 50 states, Montana boasts the most small business start up's in the U.S. The report also states that Montana's small businesses stay in operation much longer than any other state's shops and restaurants.
