Great Falls Has It's Own Emergency Alert System

Posted: Updated:

It's called Nixle, it is a free text and email alert system that is designed to get emergency situation alerts out to the public with speed.

Whether it is a fire downtown or just a traffic jam on a bridge, the Nixle system has automated alerts for any situation. "we do not do amber alerts those are sent through the federal department of justice system and there is a lot of criteria that they need to got through for them to send out an Amber Alert so we do not do those," explains The Great Falls emergency management planner, Kristal Kuhn.

Currently about 300 residents are signed up for the Nixle emergency text list. The city of Great Falls has been using Nixle since 2010, and only residents of Great Falls may sign up to receive an alert.
