Great Falls City Commission sets Public Hearing for Proposed Budget Amendment

Posted: Updated:

The Great Falls City Commission asked the City Manager, Greg Doyon, to find funds in the current budget to pay the first payment of the Southern Montana Electric settlement, to the tune of $2.5 million, which could be due within a month.  Doyon proposed an amendment to the city's 2013 fiscal year budget that would allocate money from 8 different funds within the budget to make that first payment.

Doyon says, "we tried to pick the funds that we could recover from over a period of time, funds that would allow us to continue to do services that those funds are related to without significant immediate impact, but there's going to be impact and we need to be aware that there's going to be impact because of the settlement and how that might play out will probably come out a little bit clearer as we go into the fiscal year 2014 budget".  A second payment of $750,000 is due by the end of this year.

A public hearing on the proposed budget amendment will be June 4th.  A link to the proposal is available on the city's web site.
