Glacier County Sheriff's Had No Jurisdiction

The latest in the Shannon Augare traffic stop incident.  It has been confirmed that the Glacier County Sheriff's Deputy who pulled over Augare did not have jurisdiction to arrest the Blackfeet Tribal Leader and State Senator from Browning.

Glacier County Attorney Carolyn Berkra, confirming today that county law enforcement officers have no enforcement over enrolled tribal members and their descendents within the boundaries of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation while declining to speak on specifics of the case involving the Senator.

Augare was pulled over by a Glacier County Deputy Sunday night nine miles west of Cut Bank when he told the deputy that he had no jurisdiction and drove off.  The Glacier County Sheriff's Office said there was an overwhelming odor of alcohol on his breath.

The Blackfeet Indian Reservation has not commented on the situation.
