Details Emerge From Veteran Suicide

Posted: Updated:

We are learning more about the man who shot and killed himself in front of officers in downtown Bozeman this week. Twenty-three-year-old Wade Christiansen was an American hero; an army war veteran who was injured in Afghanistan in 2009. The Red Lodge native spoke on CNN in a 2010 interview about a documentary following injured veterans.  CNN asked Wade what he would say to other veterans who are struggling to recover from their injuries

On Wednesday morning around 1:30 officers pulled Christiansen over for speeding. Officers say he got out of the vehicle and put a hand gun to his head. After a brief interaction with officers, he shot himself. Christiansen was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army in Afghanistan.  In the CNN interview he said he was in an explosion that injured his left eye and jaw.
