Plan B Now Easily Accessible To Girls of All Ages

Posted: Updated:

The Obama administration says it will comply with a judge's order to allow generic versions of emergency contraception without a prescription or age restriction.  Taking a reverse course  and withdrawing its appeal on the matter.

The decision puts an end to a decade long, back-and-forth debate over the morning after pill.

Advocates for women's rights say the federal government's decision could be a move forward for "reproductive justice." But opponents say the president is buckling down to political pressure rather than making the health of girls a priority. Critics also say the move will lead to promiscuity, sexual abuse, and fewer important doctor visits.

Until recently, the over-the-counter emergency contraception was only available to women 17 and older who presented proof of age at a pharmacist's counter.
