Body of Missing Optometrist Found

Posted: Updated:

After having been missing for one week, authorities say the body of missing Great Falls Optometrist John Kumm has been found in Lake Elwell.

Liberty County Undersheriff Doug Riggin tells ABC 5 that the result of the autopsy at the Montana State Crime Lab was a drowning.  The body they found surfaced this morning shortly after 9am near the west dock in Lake Elwell near Chester.  The body was confirmed to be Dr. John Kumm's through his drivers license that was in his possession.

Doctor Kumm was on a fishing trip and had been missing since last Thursday.

The family released a statement earlier this week believing that the presumption of drowning was premature but the Liberty County Sheriff's Office saying that there was no evidence of foul play present.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Kumm family.
