Bodies Recovered From Clark Fork River

Posted: Updated:

Authorities in Sanders County say they have recovered the bodies of a grandmother and her two grandchildren after her car submerged in the Clark Fork River. The car went into the river Friday, but divers weren't able to recover the bodies until Sunday in a search made difficult by fast-moving, muddy water. The Sanders County Sheriff identified the victims as 63-year-old Kathy Legard, 13-year-old Jake Legard and four-year-old Payten Yoder.

Montana Highway Patrol troopers say search and rescue teams arrived on scene after a witness called police to report the car sinking in the river about 13 miles west of the town of Plains. They said the car apparently went out of the family's driveway, across river road and down a 15-foot embankment into the river.
