Accident Fatalities Up This Year

Posted: Updated:

Troopers indicate there have been 93 deaths so far this year, 14 more than the same time last year.

MHP Sergeant Craig Baum says part of the increase in fatalities this year involves multiple victims in a single vehicle. But Baum says most of the fatalities are due to increased traffic caused by the Bakken oil boom in eastern Montana.

Sergeant Baum says 80%of deaths and serious injuries happen in cars traveling under 40 miles per hour, and within 25 miles of someone's house. 75% of fatalities this year have involved people not wearing their seat belt.
