Action has now been taken in the Shannon Augare traffic stop case and he is being charged.
Federal prosecutors officially charging State Senator from Browning and Blackfeet Tribal Councilman Shannon Augare with drunken driving, obstructing a peace officer, and reckless driving after he reportedly fled from a traffic stop just outside of Cut Bank on May 26th.
Charges have been filed in U.S. District Court in Great Falls. All the charges are misdemeanors and if convicted Augare could face up to fifteen months in prison and close to $2,000 in fines.
Augare was pulled over on the Blackfeet Reservation and allegedly told a Glacier County Sheriff's Deputy he had no jurisdiction to make the arrest before reportedly driving off after the deputy tried to take his keys.
Calls to the reservation have been unsuccessful. We will have more information as it develops.
