Authorities have identified the man who reportedly assaulted GFPD officers Saturday night. Residents of the 1600 block on 6th Avenue NW called police around 9 p.m. Saturday, after 21-year-old Tyreek Stephens began disturbing the neighborhood. When officers arrived they approached Stephens. According to GFPD, the man tried to jump into the drivers seat of the patrol vehicle triggering an intense physical altercation between Stephens and police. Stephens was then tasered but it was ineffective. The officers sustained minor injuries. Stephens has been charged with multiple counts including a felony assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and trespassing for attempting to get inside the patrol vehicle.
