Capitol Building Forced to Evacuate

Posted: Updated:

The Capitol building just hours ago was forced to evacuate and is now surrounded by Helena firefighters and law enforcement officials.

According to our Bureau Reporter in Helena, the Capitol building was evacuated after a report of a suspicious package.

At 12:15pm the Governor's mail handler opened a package and noticed a material of cloth wrapped in tape and then it was reported as possible hazardous material.

No injuries have been reported at this time, the mail handler who opened the package has been quarantined and is still in the quarantine process as of late this afternoon.

Governor Bullock was not in the Capitol building at the time of the package being opened.  The building is still under complete evacuation.  We will have more information as it comes in.
