Prison Escapee Still on the Loose

Posted: Updated:

Latest developments in the search for a convicted sex offender who escaped from Deer Lodge Prison two days ago.  Some parts of the search are being ended.

Montana State Prison officials have ended their ground search for Dean Randolph Jess.

Warden Leroy Kirkegard's crews had been searching through areas near the prison for the 42 year old escapee.  Jess had been working on motor vehicle repair detail and the vehicle was found a mile and a half south of the prison late Monday morning.

Prison staff is currently investigating Jess's recent activities and have searched his cell, but no clues have been found on where he might have or eventually might go.

Jess was described as not a problem inmate at Deer Lodge and had worked in the motor vehicle maintenance program since 2006.

Jess was serving a 55 year prison sentence for a conviction out of Park County in 2004.
