Teenager's Body Found in River

Posted: Updated:

The body of the missing teenager from Great Falls was found this morning in the portion of the Missouri River south of Great Falls where he was last seen.

According to Sgt. Bob Wojciechowski of the Cascade County Sheriff's Office, at around 8:30am Thursday the body of the 17 year old who went missing late Tuesday afternoon was found adjacent to the Big Bend Fishing access point south of Great Falls.

The body was identified as that of Wyatt Whitmore of Great Falls.  It was the second drowning in the Missouri River over the last four days.  Whitmore's body was found about 150ft from where he was last seen Tuesday.

In a statement, the Sheriff's Office acknowledged and thanked all groups that participated in the search but also say to residents that most drowning's are avoidable and that even the strongest of swimmers often can not over come the forces of river currents and other similar factors.  And also if you see someone having difficulty to call 9-1-1 immediately.
