"Today the Anaconda-Deer Lodge Police Department and the Division of Investigation of the Montana Department of Justice are investigating the apparent homicide of a 4-year-old boy," says Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Attorney, Ben Krakowka.
39-year-old Jeremy Brent Cramer and his son, both residents of Lacey, Washington were reported missing on Monday after Cramer's wife indicated the father and son left in a 2007 silver Dodge Ram following a custodial dispute on Monday.
Later Monday night, a clerk at this Town Pump called police to tell them a man was attempting to wash blood from his body and clothes. Following his arrest for disorderly conduct, Deer Lodge County law enforcement began a search for Kramer's vehicle and his son.
Krakowka says, "The Anaconda-Deer Lodge Police Department located the suspect's vehicle five miles southeast of the town on Montana Secondary Highway 569. The four year old was not found at the time. At day break, authorities renewed their search and eventually located the boy's body."
Tuesday afternoon the suspect made his initial court appearance. There, the county attorney described a possible motive for the suspect.
"It appears that he may have resided here some years ago, but currently he is residing in the state of Washington and traveled here for the sole purpose of killing his four-year-old child," says Krakowka.
Officials are not yet releasing a cause of death for the young boy. Cramer is being held on a $250,000 bond. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison. In Anaconda, Rob Jesselson, ABC-FOX Montana.
