Another Rabid Bat Found at Holter Lake

Posted: Updated:

After reports of dead carp being found in many parts of Holter Lake, for the second time this summer a bat that Ozzy Osbourne may decide to stay away from found on the campground.

The Lewis and Clark City-County Health Department reporting for the second time this season a bat found at the Holter Lake campground has tested positive for rabies.

The department warns that rabies is nearly always fatal if not treated and urges anyone who has had direct contact with a bat at the campground since early June to call the Health Department immediately to determine if treatment is needed.

An administrator with the Disease Control Division says the best way to protect your health is to avoid contact with bats overall.

According to the Health Department, people who have not come in contact with the bat are not at risk, but parents are asked to check with their children to find out if they touched or played with a bat while at the campground and to make sure their pets have current rabies vaccinations.
