Comic Book Sales Increasing

Posted: Updated:

Comic Con in San Diego just wrapped up with more than 130,000 attendees. So we asked one local comic book shop owner, is the comic book industry dying like how many believe?

"Here in Great Falls, we're a little more stable. We don't jump to every fad," says Kelly's Komix owner Brooks Kelly.

Kelly is the owner of Kelly's Komix on 10th Ave S. He's been selling comics for 20 years. He says the industry has changed and so have his customers.

"Women now, they're feeling more comfortable about it. Before it was kind of quiet or they read what their boyfriend's bought. But there's quite a few now that are just this is what I like, this is what I want to read."

He's lost count on how many comics he has in his store but says its in the thousands. They range anywhere from $3-$400.

Kelly says the economy had little affect on his sales. The comic book industry reported a 15% increase in sales in 2012 than the previous year. Among the top 100 best sellers were The Walking Dead series.
