Judge Sandefur sentences Jenna Van Delden to ten years behind bars for her connection to harboring a thirteen year old runaway for several months. During that time, the victim and the defendant admitted to having a sexual relationship.
The judge acknowledged that this is Van Delden's first felony and it was a non-violent and non forcible crime, saying the sexual contact between her and the teenager was consensual, although not in a legal sense. Still feeling she needed more accountability, Sandefur delivered the ten year sentence. He also awarded the victim's family more than $4,000 in restitution for expenses occurred such as cost of fliers and gasoline during their search for the victim.
The victim's father, Kenneth, testified at the sentencing. He said with great emotion, "I finally get my child and this woman ruined him. It has been nothing but hell".
Van Delden is now labeled a level one sex offender. The defense declined to comment on the sentencing, as did the prosecution. The victim's family leaving the courtroom only said justice has been served.
