Charging documents from Great Falls police state that officers were dispatched to an address on 9th Street South between 2nd and 3rd Ave North shortly before 6:30 a.m. Police were going to the residence on information that two individuals at the house were questioned for an alleged theft of a firearm. A search warrant was obtained after the occupants refused to come out. The  high risk unit was then called. Shortly after the HRU arrived, two individuals, identified to be David Komeotis and Stephanie McGillis, surrendered to police. A witness in the area heard multiple gunshots and stated that he saw an older male and female leaving the residence and another male firing two to three shots as they were leaving.

Reports say a gun was found at the scene that matched the gun that was reported stolen earlier in the morning. The standoff was nearly four hours long and the Heisey Youth Center and Great Falls Community Rec Center were placed on lockdown during the standoff. Komeotis has been charged with felony criminal endangerment and misdemeanor theft. McGillis was not charged.
