Youth Forest Monitoring Program helps save forests

Posted: Updated:

The Youth Forest Monitoring Program is a summer internship that challenges local high school students to learn more about their public land and they learn right along side research professionals and they go out and monitor forest areas.

Students collect data and formulate a final report and give a presentation to forest service professionals. Students are given the opportunity to be interactive with the environment and take crucial skills that can in return be used in the future for not only them but the forest.

Youth Forest Monitoring Program has tracked past students who participated in this internship program and around 60% have actually pursued careers in Natural Resources. This group of students can take the skills they have learned in this program and apply them to their future in college and beyond.
