Twin Bridges Recovers From Severe Storm

Twin Bridges -

Residents and workers of Twin Bridges are cleaning up the town after a severe storm hit Thursday afternoon.

"The windows rattled really, really hard," said Erin Wayland. "I was concerned about the windows shattering and breaking."

"All heck broke loose," said Twin Bridges resident, Dan Leavens. "The trees started to come down, things were flying everywhere in the yard. There wasn't anything we could do except hold on and watch, and stay in a safe spot."

Late Thursday afternoon Twin Bridges experienced a severe wind storm accompanied by heavy rain and hail.

Madison County officials say the storm was not a tornado, but winds did reach up to more than 90 mph

"There's no indication that it was a tornado," Chris Mumme, Madison County Director of Emergency Services. "Although the winds were extremely high. Out towards the airport, we got sustained winds up to 91 miles an hour."

The majority of the damage from the storm was knocked down trees, some even landing on buildings.

Residents also lost power, something northwestern energy is trying to restore.

"It was overwhelming to see all of the trees come down," Wayland said. "One in our backyard, we have a large tree where quite a few of the limbs came off, it's on the ground. I was concerned for all the neighbors."

While Twin Bridges continues to clean the town of debris, the residents say they will bounce back to their normal lifestyle.

"It's neat to watch the community come together," Leavens said. "We'll clearly get through this. It's a hiccup; it's a bump in the road. It's nothing we can't handle. We're from Montana.

Madison County officials say power might be turned back on by Friday night.

There are no reported injuries from Thursday's storm.

The Madison County Emergency Management Team is taking over the cleanup.
