Great Falls Teacher Committed to Boys and Girls Club

Posted: Updated:

Tyler Hansen spends his time teaching at the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind, but just because the school year ends, doesn't mean he is done teaching. Tyler has spent the past three and a half years giving back to the community by working with the children of the Boys and Girls Club.

Tyler: "I love being with the kids. At the same time I was teaching them, they teach me too and help me to teach them how to be better role models and they do the same tome."

As a full time staff member of the Boys and Girls Club, Tyler teaches Art, Science, and Physical Education while also working with the teens. Shoshanna Scott, a Junior Staff Member, enjoys his company...

Shoshanna: "He's really funny."

Everyone around him commends Tyler for his genuine personality and commitment to the youth of Great Falls.

Rebecca Lee: "He's an incredible teacher, we've seen him work with the children in all kinds of capacities and he is so charming- he gets the children to think and to dream and hope and wish- he's just wonderful. "

His patience with children and passion for teaching shine through in his work with the Boys and Girls Club.  To Tyler, it's more thana job; this position is about inspiring young minds…

Tyler: "The most important thing is to be patient. I mean that's the most important thing you have to understand when you go to work you don't just go to work because you're thinking about yourself, you think about the kids. When you're in the room, looking at the kids, make sure you know each kid, how they feel, what do they want, what inspires them? Something that will help them remember for the rest of their lives.

Sexual Offenders in Montana need tier designation

In 2013 legislature passed a bill that gave district court judges the authority to assign a tier level to an offender after sentencing. Tier designations are important because of how it's used to predict the likelihood that a sexual offender will re-offend. However over half of Montana's registered sex offenders haven't been assigned.
