Nimrod Fire Burning at 350 Acres

Posted: Updated:
CLINTON -

Crews on the Nimrod fire east of Missoula are up against a red flag weather warning on Friday, as they battled the 350-acre blaze.

The Nimrod fire is burning near Clinton, between the Beavertail and Bearmouth exits and is on the north side of Interstate 90.

The fire was reported last night around 6 p.m. and is currently 0% contained.

Fire officials high winds and low humidity could allow the Nimrod fire to quickly spread through the area's dry grass and downed timber.

"The topography, the winds, it's steep, there's cliffs that are in the middle of the fire area, and so that's definitely a concern with rolling material and just also, fire likes to run uphill and the steeper the terrain, the more it wants to move up fast," said Cindy Super, of the DNRC.

Fire crews are aided by three helicopters, an engine air tanker and other resources.

Officials said the red flag weather warning could also help fuel the 18,000-acre Gold Pan Complex fire burning southwest of Darby.

Also in western Montana, the 11-acre Freeze Out fire in the Superior Ranger District is now 50% contained.
