EOD Team Extracts Bomb-making Chemicals from Apt.

MISSOULA -

Missoula authorities are bringing out loads of chemicals used to make bombs from an apartment building on the north side of town.

Police said the 26-year-old tenant of the apartment off Industry Way was transported from Polson Monday afternoon and is being questioned at the station

Members of the Missoula regional EOD team are moving the chemicals out of the apartment to a secure location for examination.

They've been working at the scene since 7 a.m.

Missoula police said the apartment landlord thought she'd discovered a meth lab early this morning while she was checking up on the apartment.

Police said she called 911 and officers investigated the scene.

"The officers are, you know, they're trained to look for things that just don't look right, and then call out EOD or call out hazmat," said MPD Captain Chris Odlin.

Odlin said the regional explosive ordnance disposal team took one look at the chemicals and decided to back off.

He said, "They've come out to the scene and they feel it is possibly homemade explosives."

Odlin said the apartment's tenant is a 26-year-old Missoula man, who was visiting Kalispell and was picked up by authorities in the region today.

"He is the person who we suspect has been making these substances and right now," Odlin said.

They said the man's roommate was at the scene this morning, and answered questions from police before leaving for work.

"So, right now, we're just working on how to deal with those chemicals and substances safely," he said.

Police said three apartment fourplexes and some residents in a mobile home park were evacuated this morning.
