Lolo Fire Fighters Brace for High Winds

Posted: Updated:
LOLO CREEK -

Fire officials on the Lolo Creek Complex said today's wind will be the first big test of the northern fire line to see if it will hold.

Crews said their mission today was to "search and destroy" hot spots close to that northern line to decrease the chance of spot fires.

A contingency line between the north fire line and the Graves Creek jeep road will serve as a backup plan in case the winds pick up.

Fire Information Officer Megan Nemitz said, "As far as the fire itself, it didn't get a lot of wetting rain, so it didn't help the fire, and anything that was dropped on the ground, dries up pretty quick throughout the day."

Officials said they've reached 85% containment on the fire that's burning at nearly 11,000 acres. Fire officials on the Lolo Creek Complex said today's wind will be the first big test of the northern fire line to see if it will hold.
