Hickethier Reprimanded Twice Before Appointment

Posted: Updated:

Colonel Kenton Hickethier of the Montana Highway Patrol announcing this past weekend that he would be retiring on at the end of the month from his position.  The Montana Department of Justice confirming that the Colonel had two previous reprimands against him while with the highway patrol.

According to Communications Director of the Montana Department of Justice John Barnes, Hickethier did not reveal the incidents to the transition team during his screening and appointment process in December 2012, and when the department became aware of these in July, they brought them to his attention and in the wake of that he chose to retire.

The incidents at question took place in May of 2008 and September of 2011.  The reprimand in 2008 came as a result of comments made about a female trooper and how she would be punished if she were a male trooper.

The incident in 2011 was from comments he made regarding one trooper's weight, and one on another trooper's age while at the nationwide domestic highway enforcement meeting in Phoenix, Arizona.

Hickethier is currently on leave status until his retirement date of September 30th.
