The Griz Crush UND 55-17

Posted: Updated:

Saturday night was the Grizzlies first away game of the season against the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Last week was a bye week for the Griz but the time off didn't slow them down with a dominating 55-17 win.

North Dakota scored first against UM with a touchdown but the Griz answered back right away. Jordan Johnson threw for 3 touchdowns in the first quarter taking the lead 20-7. The Griz didn't let up in the second quarter, scoring two more touchdowns and only letting UND put up a 3-point field goal to end the half at 33-10.

The UM offense ran a tough game the UND defense didn't have an answer for. UND's head coach Chris Mussman expressed frustration at the half, "We've given up three or four big plays, it's a discipline issue right now, we just have to be smart, play smart, we dug ourselves a hole, we got find a way to get back into it. – Their heads are in the game, but we're making those critical mistakes right now."

Even with a strong lead Coach Delaney felt his defense could pick it up as well, "We've been on the field way too long on defense. We're playing well, but we're capable of playing a lot better on defense. We've got to clean up our kicking game."

The Griz rushed for a touchdown early in the 3rd quarter upping their lead 40-10. UND managed to get one more touchdown but the momentum was short lived as UM scored again keeping a 30-point lead 47-17. Early in the 4th Joey Counts got across the end zone and after the two-point conversion the Griz led an impressive 55-17.

The Griz had a total of 376 passing yards with Jordan Johnson throwing for 354 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Griz crushed UND on rushing yards 233-55.  Ellis Henderson was the player of the game with 5 receptions, 124 yards, 3 TD's, and 44 total return yards.
