Deer Counting Begins in Helena

Posted: Updated:

The deer count will start on September 25th and go through October 14th on a total of eight different evenings. The survey will be conducted between the hours of 9 P.M. And 3 A.M. in a blue Jeep Liberty with Fish, Wildlife, and Parks license plates and Helena Police Department logos on the doors.
The counted numbers will be turned over to Fish, Wildlife, and Parks where they will then come up with an estimated count of deer in the city. This information will help provide advice on whether deer will need to be removed from the area. The goal is to attain approximately 25 deer per square mile as recommended in the Urban Deer Plan that was approved by the City Commission years ago.
