ABC FOX Montana Learns Name Of Shooting Victim

Posted: Updated:
BOZEMAN -

ABC FOX Montana now knows the name of one of the victims in Friday morning's shooting.

The shooting happened after a late night party in the 100 block of Ferguson.

Friends and family say 24-year-old James Armstrong was shot in the leg Friday morning after an argument at the end of a party in the 100 block of Ferguson.

Armstrong was airlifted to a billings hospital after being transported to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

County attorney Marty Lambert said in court Friday afternoon Armstrong is in danger of losing his leg.

In a Facebook post Friday evening, Armstrong's brother, Kody Manke, said doctors grafted a vein to try to save Armstrong's leg.

ABC FOX Montana's Digital Sales Manager Sam Spencer knows Armstrong.

"My initial reaction would probably have to be why do bad things happen to good people," said Spencer.

He described Armstrong as a loving person.

"He's a very warm person, always happy, we've had a lot of fun together," said Spencer.

Court documents said Armstrong and two others were shot by a 20 gage shot gun in cold blood.

Court documents also said witnesses told police the party was winding down when "guys were being guys" and got into a fist fight.

One witness told police 25-year-old Cody Christopher Little was involved with the fight and then went home and came back his shot gun.

Documents say he fired the weapon three times, once in the ground once in a man's abdomen and the third into Armstrong's leg.

Gary George says he heard those shots from about a mile away.

"It sounded like three gun shots or tires popping or something," said George. "I wasn't sure what it was. I looked out my window and I didn't see anything."

Little appeared in Justice Court this afternoon, where he faces two counts of attempted deliberate homicide and one count of assault with a weapon.

His bond was set at $1,250,000.

Little's next court appearance is October 11.

One person is in a Seattle hospital with what is being described as life threatening injuries.

All the victims' conditions are unknown.
