MT Lawmakers Fear War on Coal

Posted: Updated:

People look at a power plant and either see jobs or pollution. While Environmentalists say they are looking forward to the future of cleaner-energy jobs, Colstrip Mayor Rose Hanser says the proposal doesn't make sense.

State Representative Duane Ankney says the EPA's proposal is the warning sign to a war on coal.  Ankney says if the EPA imposes stricter guidelines on existing plants, like the one in Colstrip, all Montanans would be affected.

Environmentalists say coal can still be mined, but carbon emissions need to be reduced. Stricter guidelines on existing power plants are expected to be proposed by next June.

KFBB is receiving reports that a presidential plane has landed in Great Falls at the Montana Air National Guard. It is unclear what exactly the plane is doing at MANG, although it is suspected the plane could be apart of the President's fleet and there wasn't room at the Missoula International Airport for the entire fleet to land.  Our Ricky Blackburn is currently on the scene at the airport, and is working to bring us more information as it becomes available.
