Prep Of The Week: Corbin Klinefelter

Posted: Updated:

Soccer player Corbin Klinefelter had put in the time, the sweat, the hard work.  He'd made the CMR varsity team as a sophomore.  But in the first 10 minutes of the new season, the worst nightmare of a young athlete became a reality.

"I was really disappointed because I put in all of that effort through 2-a-days and open gyms then I get on varsity and I'm all excited to play," said Klinefelter.  "It was my right shoulder, it was a 50-50 ball and me and this other kid went up for it and I just got tripped or something and I just fell wrong on it and it just broke"

Klinefelter would miss all of his sophomore season due to the broken shoulder, but has come back with a vengeance his junior season, leading the team in goals scored.  In a 4-1 win over Butte last week, Klinefelter had a break-out game.  He notched a hat trick, with three goals scored.

"He knows where to be when the ball's going in the box and he shows it by his goals," said Joel Marinaccio, CMR's head soccer coach.

"Corbin's known for getting the goals, and every game that he does some scoring, he's gotten more than one," said teammate Joel Lechman.

Besides the three goals though, the fact that he's shown absolutely no rust from a year off came as no surprise to his teammates.

"I knew he was gonna come back hard because he knows and loves the sport.  Watching him play club ball and just his involvement in the team when we were in preseason last season…he really loves to play the game," said Marinaccio.

"After I got my shoulder all back and ready at full recovery, I had my foot on the ball and outside practicing, getting ready for this season," Klinefelter added.

Klinefelter will look to continue his strong season as the Rustlers host Bozeman this Friday at 5:30.
