A terrible crime has occured in Massachusetts. Where teacher was attacked and killed by a student. Only a few days after another teacher was shot and killed by a student in Nevada. Both suspects so young and no motive known for either one.
This grisly murder has left a community north of Boston in shock.
District Attorney Johnathan Blodgett stated, "she was a very, very respected, loved teacher."
14 year old Phillip Chism is accused of fatally stabbing 24 year old Colleen Ritzer, a beloved math teacher at Danvers High School where Chism was a student.
Blodgett said, "the teacher was reported missing and as a result of that, and her not
answering her cell phone, police instituted a search and found blood."
Ritzer's blood was found in a second floor bathroom late Tuesday night. Her
body was found later in the woods behind the school.
Danvers High School is in a new building that's equipped with 130 cameras.
Law enforcement sources told abc news there is surveillance video inside the
school that shows Chism hauling Ritzer's body from the bathroom toward the
woods in what appeared to be a recylcing bin.
Chism was a transfer student from Tennessee who played on the Junior Varsity
He was thought to have gone missing last night after he didn't come home from school. He was later found in a neighboring town.
One student said, "I think it's insane, completely shocked. I don't think Philip would be the kind of person to do this."
Chism was silent as he was arraigned in court today. He was ordered held without bail and is currently being charged as an adult.
Just two days ago, a student arrived at a Nevada middle school with a handgun and shot a teacher who tried to stop him.
Ritzer's last tweet expresssed sympathy for that school community.
Peter Martellucci, Ritzer's uncle said, "she was just a young caring girl who had whole world ahead of her. And to be taken so tragically, it's awful."
Chism will be back in court on November 22nd.
