Senator Jon Tester tours Domestic Violence Shelter in Helena

Posted: Updated:

Earlier in Helena this afternoon Senator Jon Tester stopped by for a tour of the Domestic Violence Shelter, known as the Friendship Center.

The friendship center is the only shelter in Lewis and Clark, Jefferson, Broadwater, and Powell Counties that provides a safe haven and support at no charge for anyone who has suffered domestic violence or sexual abuse. Senator John Tester stopped by for a tour of the facility and was able to learn himself how the shelter operates on a daily basis.

Senator Jon Tester said "Friendship Center got a pretty good Violence Against Women grant a month or so ago, and it is always good to see how those dollars are being utilized especially with the budget pressures that we are facing in Washington D.C.

Tester made this visit not only to learn how the shelter operates, but to also shed light on Domestic Violence Awareness Month. October evolved as this month from the first day of Unity observed in October by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence in 1981.
