One Killed, Three Injured in Crash Near Butte

BUTTE -

One man is dead and three other are injured after a rollover accident occurred just south of Butte Thursday night.

Around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night, police responded to a one vehicle rollover crash on Moose Creek Road, just south of Butte.

The Montana Highway Patrol says the car was driving too fast over the icy road when the car fell 100 feet off a cliff.

Upon impact, one of the passengers, 19, was ejected from the car and died.

The passengers in the car were 18, two were 19, and one was 30.

None of them were wearing a seatbelt.

Authorities say they believe alcohol was a factor.

"It's pretty well traveled," said Butte-Silver Bow County Undersheriff George Skuletich. "It's a dirt road. With the weather that we had last night, the rain and the snow we had last night, it could get muddy and slippery."

The Montana Highway Patrol will be taking over the investigation.

It is unknown if alcohol was a factor at this time.
