Wisconsin Couple Rescued in Yellowstone National Park

Posted: Updated:

Mark and Kristine Wathke were traveling from Cornell, Wisconsin to vacation in Miles City.  The couple had made hotel reservations to stay in Miles City on Tuesday night, but they never showed up. The last time anyone saw them was Tuesday leaving the northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park.  Troy Barnett is the owner of the K Bar Z guest ranch in Cody, Wyoming.
He found the couple after 8AM, Monday morning, 24 miles away from his ranch.

Lance Mathess with the Park County Sheriff's Department says, "They are both safe. No medical attention required. They had plenty of fuel in their car, which means they could start their car occasionally to keep warm. They had some food, limited amount of food…crackers, peanut butter things like that. They had water."

Barnett says he is happy he was able to locate the couple before they got stranded longer.
