Shannon Augare's Trial Delayed

Posted: Updated:

State Senator from Browning and Blackfeet Tribal Leader Shannon Augare says if a judge does not dismiss federal charges against him, he will plead guilty to drunken driving, reckless driving, and obstruction of a peace officer.

Augare's Attorney, Joe McKay, saying in a court filing Tuesday that Augare will change his plea if U.S. Magistrate Judge Keith Strong rejects his earlier request to dismiss the case. He also went on to say that Augare  quote "does not intend to put the court to a trial."
McKay originally requested strong to dismiss the federal case after Augare pled guilty to the same charges in tribal court last month over a May 26th traffic stop, but federal prosecutors say Augare is attempting to manipulate the federal case by using "jurisdictional gymnastics."
As of now, Judge Strong has delayed the trial, which was scheduled to begin Thursday, to hear arguments Augare's motion to dismiss.
