Cascade Public School Presents Veterans Day Surprise

Posted: Updated:

It's Veterans Day and Cascade Public Schools gave a very special presentation which included a surprise for some kids whose military parents are serving away from home.

The festivities kicked off with patriotic readings and songs.  Four young students were in for a treat when their military parents were able to video chat from afar, the first of which was in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Things got a little emotional for the family, but they were definitely tears of joy.

Another youngster was able to chat with his dad who is training in Arkansas, and the conversation was a little more lighthearted.

With technology coming so far over the years, the principal was glad to give such a unique opportunity to the kids of his school.

While Veterans Day celebrates the living members of our armed forces, a moment of silence was also taken to remember those who sacrificed their lives for our country.

Celebration continued as the songs of each branch of the military were sung by both the kids and the community members.  On this very important holiday, it was evident that the support from the town of Cascade was felt both near and far.

And finally, I want to give a special thank you out there to World War II veteran George Rumsey.  Happy Veterans Day Grandpa!
