Medicaid Expansion for Veterans

Posted: Updated:

Officials with Partnership for Montana's Future releasing a radio ad and an educational video on how expanding medicaid would help up to 70,000 Montanans, And nearly 9,500 veterans.

During the 2013 legislative session, efforts to expand medicaid received bi-partisan support, but conservatives in the state legislature ultimately blocked legislation. Now, dozens of advocacy groups are spreading awareness on the topic, encouraging legislators to hold a special session and accept federal funding to expand medicaid.

Kristie Smith with Partnership for Montana's Future says, "Montana has the highest percentage of uninsured veterans in the nation. What we really hope is that Montana will come back and that we will expand Medicaid."

Officials say taking medicaid expansion to the ballot in 2014 is also an option.
